This book is the meeting of two worlds and their inherent logic: (digital) typography and knitting. Rüdiger Schlömer, the author and graduate graphic designer, shows us how to think differently about knitting: the stitch becomes a pixel, the sample becomes a module, the module becomes part of a whole... A message is created, either it remains purely aesthetic, or it becomes political, or is transformed into a secret alphabet, it is up to you and your needles to decide.
The reflection leads us to patchwork knitting, shadow knitting, fascinating terms and techniques that can open up new horizons and offer new challenges. It is an approach to be applied to works such as cushions, blankets, accessories to which you wish to give a visual message.
A very, very good read, a book with a resolutely modern design, alphabets, references to websites on the subject, etc. In short, a book for which you will have to give yourself time to understand, think, sample and test with your leftover wool.
I had the chance to attend a workshop with Rüdiger Schlömer at the Swiss Yarn Festival in March 2020. It was a very nice experience that allowed me to understand more quickly his process, to see his samples. If you ever have the opportunity to attend one of his workshops, don't hesitate. He announces them on his website, www.typeknitting.net, or follow him on Instagram.
